The Best Tips for Your Summer Vacation in the Zillertal
Within a radius of about 50 km, there are plenty of options for day trips during your summer vacation. We’ve listed some particularly interesting destinations for you here. Many of these suggestions are also excellent alternatives should the weather not be so great.
Museum on Widumspfiste in Fügen
The museum focuses on the history of the Zillertal singing families and the resulting spread of the Christmas carol “Silent Night” throughout the world, as illustrated through pictures and documents. On three additional floors, you’ll find exhibits on art, customs, traditional crafts, and the region’s extensive mining and metallurgy section.
Fügen Demonstration Cheese Factory
At the demonstration cheese factory of the Zillertal Hay Milk Dairy, you can experience the production of the unique sliced cheese, Hochfügen Alpine Cheese, Fügen Emmental, and gray cheese. The adjoining museum illustrates what cheese-making looked like 100 years ago. It’s impressive to see just how simple the tools and equipment used to make cheese were back then.
Zillertal Adventure Spa
Fun and relaxation await you in this aquatic wellness world in Fügen: a wellness and relaxation area, an outdoor pool, and—at 133 meters—a water slide that’s not only spectacular but also the longest in Western Austria. Another highlight for water lovers is the inner-tube slide.
Visorium Mayrhofen
Experiences across 2,000 m² in the heart of Mayrhofen, featuring puzzles, games, and fun in a relaxed atmosphere. No matter the weather, the indoor recreation center offers entertainment for the whole family. Thanks to its cross-thematic areas, there’s something for every age group.
Through entertainment and various activities, visitors learn interesting facts about the Zillertal—think “edutainment.” In addition to the valley’s sights and unique features, the facility also shares unique stories and legends that we, the people of the Zillertal, have experienced for decades and have been able to pass on to the next generation. These stories not only shape the region but also define who we are.

A visit to the educational farm is also exciting, especially for children.
